Here, we’ll be explaining exactly what this prelude chapter is, and whether it’s worth your time playing.

What Is Ghostwire Tokyo Prelude: The Corrupted Casefile?

The Ghostwire Tokyo Prelude is essentially a visual novel that provides additional background about one of the main characters of the main game, KK. In The Corrupted Casefile, players will join KK and a gang of supernatural detectives as they investigate the disappearance of a child’s friend, only to discover there’s something a little more sinister at play. Players can make choices to work with specific supernatural detectives, altering the dialogue slightly depending on who you choose. The whole thing takes place prior to the mass disappearance of the general public of Tokyo, but just on the cusp of the supernatural events of the main game really ramping up.

Should You Play It?

If you’re really invested in Ghostwire Tokyo already, then the prelude does a nice job of fleshing out the character of KK and his origins prior to the events of the main game where he accompanies Akito in his spirit form. That being said, it’s not absolutely imperative you play this before starting Ghostwire Tokyo. It only lasts about 20 minutes, and the disappearance the team investigates isn’t all that significant. For those that don’t really enjoy visual novels, you’re going to be underwhelmed jumping into The Corrupted Casefile if you’re expecting some action-focused gameplay. The majority of your time is spent clicking through dialogue and watching the story unfold, occasionally choosing another detective to work with or ask for advice on the case.
